Copper Canyon

23″ x 11″ x 11″

How light flows within and out across openings is a carefully considered, integral part of the experience of this piece. It’s carved from a Cherry tree brought down by a huge ice storm that covered a large section of Tennessee with days of crystalline beauty. Filling it’s trunk with light has been a rewarding way of giving this fallen beauty new majesty. Smooth, scalloped interior surfaces are painted with a remarkably effective metallic copper paint, bouncing the light and contrasting with the rock-like exterior surfaces.
